Picture Perfect Photos for the Solo Traveler

How to take the perfect photos
as a solo traveler

One of the many obstacles I faced when I started traveling alone was capturing good photographs with me in them. I was comfortable asking others to take my pictures for me, and uncomfortable asking them to re-take or attempt various angles and poses. Not to mention the rational fear they might just steal my phone and run away, a crisis I’d faced too many times in my twenties.

But what happens when you are completely alone in nature with nobody to take the photo?
As a wise fisherman once said “no picture, no fish“.

A tripod-selfie stick is one of the easiest ways to get amazing photos when you are traveling alone or even in a group. They are affordable, stand up to 5 feet tall and come with a bluetooth remote.

Gone be the days of you missing the shot, no need to ask someone to take your photos or use a 10 second timer, you can take as many pictures as you need, at every angle you would like.

Now through the years I have tried a few brands and these are my top recommendations.

MY FAVORITE ONE
My loyalty is with currently with this one.
I’ve used and gifted this item multiple times.

Another tool that rescued me

I’d gotten creative over the years using water bottles, walls, and even fruits to prop up my phone on my daily face time calls with my bestie on my lunch break. Often covering the microphone and my phone slipping and falling multiple times I discovered this nifty stand.

This one is magnetic and easily removable. Which is perfect because when applied it does not fit in most tripod stands. It’s great for video and phone calls as it can support your phone vertically and horizontally) but I’ve also found it’s great supporting my phone for pictures . You can use your phone timer or apple watch to snap the photos.
It’s perfect for when you don’t feel like whipping out your tripod.
